Sources and sporting context
Our reference material prioritises governing bodies, international federations, event organisers and public athlete records. Rules articles identify the relevant discipline or framework where appropriate. References appear beneath each article so readers can investigate further. Some institutional pages may be unavailable because of regional restrictions, access settings or later website changes.
Facts, history and interpretation
An achievement in a specified year is a historical fact, not an automatic claim about a current title total or world record. Discussion of technique, tactics and viewing priorities is editorial interpretation, rather than a statement from an athlete or governing body. We do not present invented interview quotations. General sporting photographs are not labelled as portraits of the athletes discussed.
Publication dates
The date shown on an article records its preparation or publication. It does not mean that the event described happened that day, or that the article incorporates every subsequent news development. Rules can change between seasons. For a specific officiating question, consult the regulations in force at that competition.
When sources differ
First compare the discipline, event year, category and rules edition. Rugby sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby, different basketball codes and different competition phases can use different conditions. The reference links offer a route to further verification; they do not replace an official interpretation from the event organiser.
