Individual judo is organised by bodyweight category. Mixed teams combine male and female athletes in regulated categories to contest several bouts. IJF and event regulations determine the line-up and deciding procedures. An ippon can end the bout currently on the mat without necessarily ending the whole team encounter.
Two levels of results
An individual scoreboard records technical scoring levels and penalties. The team result depends on the outcomes of its constituent contests, with any tie resolved under the event format. Broadcasts may show both at once. A yuko or waza-ari should not simply be added directly to the team's bout-win count as though the two displays used identical units.
Selection and individual circumstances
Mixed-team competition brings athletes from different categories into a shared result, subject to entry and line-up rules. Someone who lost in the individual event can still contribute meaningfully to the team event. Analyse actual appearances and bout outcomes instead of predicting the result from the number of famous names on the roster.
Keep titles in separate columns
A mixed-team gold records a team achievement, not automatic victory in every member's individual category. Athlete profiles should distinguish those honours. To explain a particular contribution, examine the appearances, opponents and outcomes. The final team win does not establish that each member won every individual bout they contested during the encounter.
